Anyone who knows me well knows that I am NOT a “numbers” person! But in
this industry, there are some things that you just sort of commit to memory …
  and those things are measurements.

You can always cheat a little bit and “eyeball” things, but you should at
  least know the rules.

To help you plan your space ACCURATELY, I provide you with these guidelines.

  • there should be 8” between your tabletop & dining chair seat

  • an area rug should extend 24” beyond the edges of a dining table

  • leave a minimum of 3 feet between the dining table & wall

  • allow 24” to 30” of tabletop for each person

  • a chandelier should hang 30” above the dining table in a room with
    8 foot ceilings

  • raise the fixture 3” for each additional foot of ceiling height

  • a gallon of latex paint should cover 450 square feet

  • multiply the width of your window by 2.5 to determine the fabric
width required for a full drapery style

  • the drapery rod or track should be mounted at least 2” above
    the window frame

  • the rod should extend 6” to 16” beyond each side, depending on
    the scale of the window
